igor tchkotoua and dan duncan are true workaholics. not only are the two mallorquinos forming one of the most exciting techno duos of our time and play in the most famous clubs worldwide, they always make it to pop up in the studio to work on their releases on sonic society, wig records or like in the case of >deliverance<, the new 12inch on cocoon. >deliverance< starts quite cautious but the track becomes more and more complex – pig & dan give the dj a tool that fits the minimal raver like a custom-made suit. the b side is again one of those tracks that put a smile on your face. in >sly detector<, atmospheric techno sound unites with energetic celebration pleasure, just as we know it from tracks like >after ibiza< or >on to the beat<. the rolling hookline which has the necessary splash of acid is, together with the floating trance layer, adrenalising to such extent that nothing else remains to be done but to raise your hands in the air. the track was already a hit with many djs in 2007, and will be one – chosen in the right moment – on many dancefloors in 2008, too

earlier this year, todd sines inaugurated yore with the slamming techno-funk of the .xtrak release back_up ep and now returns for round two with dont stop. without losing the stripped-down, minimal tech-house funk essence of the .xtrak sound, sines ups the acid-house ante considerably in the new material. the old-school title cut makes an immediately vivid impression by repeating the insistent vocal hook >dont stop<-both command and mantra-over a towering backbeat. >cut to the chase< does exactly that with funky handclaps and syncopated swing, while the b-sides low-riding >unreflect< pairs dropouts and bass-crawling boogie. slightly different in character, the squiggly acid-techno track >quantum mechanics< is as precision-tooled as its title suggests. despite the subtle shift in stylistic emphasis, dont stop offers a splendid complement to the earlier release

impressive debut ep from new duo bearweasel are a new production duo, consisting of dean muhsin and louisa page. with a remix already out on perc trax they debut with this superb ep for audioflys new label. opening track >monkier< is brilliant. combining a touch of latin percussion with swollen basslines and brilliant horn stabs scattered througout its one of my favourite tracks of recent months. second track >drummer< is just as good – its wonky techhouse with a funky bassline and small-but-effective breakdown. remix of >monkier< comes from my favourite hamburg-based croatian, solomun. his version takes it deeper, with a lazier attitude but a warm vibe. a quality debut and a duo to watch out for in 2008.

quagmires third >artist ensemble< ep introduces the first four new artists to the labels roster. this quartet hails from dutch soil, william kouam djoko residenting in amsterdam as mical rhebess, pevanu and tim woestenenk living in the so called >backcorner< of east holland, near the german border. non of these young and talented producers released solo on vinyl before, which gives quagmire the absolute releasing debuts for these close friends of the label. william kouam djokos serialism repetition fills the complete logo side. this loopy bomb sucks you in a whirlpool of wet percussions and snareriffs. transitions are hardly recognizable and changing elements seem to continue. dynamic and delicate techhouse as never seen before on quagmire. tim woestenenks sunset love on the info side sets the elegant mood for this ep. microhouse in its purest form, stripped down to the most functional sounds. a big stab and a broken oriental stringinstrument give this track a incredible sense. timeless club music
bip soup is the collaboration of two moscow-based electronic producers: andrey zots and petr serkin (dj betatester). the main idea behind the project is the realtime techno improvisation. in studio petr and andrey produce half-finished tracks, which can be controlled in realtime on gigs. extensive usage of nord modular g2 synthesizers helps them in programming unique modular constructions. so the answer on the question what and where appears in a matter of seconds, before the realization of musical or sound ideas begins. therefore each new live gig is a unique performance. different music predilections of duo members allow to vary musical program, which helps not to stay in limits of one music style
